After the Covid-19 hit the world, many things changed in this world. From working at home to students taking online classes on zoom, everything evolved so sooner than it was expected. Similarly, it took the down tourism industry. It not only stopped tourism during its peak, but later on made it expensive as well.
Before Covid-19 came into action, the tourism industry was heading towards a lot of success. The industry contributed in creating jobs around the nation, and helping in increasing GDP. At the start of 2019, the data showed that around 1.5 billion people visit other countries as tourists only. There are many reasons why this number is badly going down.
1) The new poor
One community which was badly affected by the Covid-19 was the poor people. They were people who were already facing many problems, and later faced worse situations when they went through Covid-19. Those who were earning $1.9/day, went down to not even eating food at one time, because they were money less.
Few top journalists reported to us with their data that around 88 million people in the world fell below the extreme poverty line. Few others have their numbers at 115 million. They reported that many new poors were found to be in the region of South Asia. These new poors looked for ways to earn their bread and butter. In order to earn, they disrupted the law and order of countries, eventually increasing the crime rate. This made a sense of fear in people’s hearts to visit countries due to this, affecting tourism. Less people took the risk of going on vacations, and thus this increased the cost of transportation, hotels, and food.
2) Impact on Businesses and Jobs
One of the key points that made tourism expensive was that businesses and jobs had an impact. Recent data showed how companies’ production got halved, and so did their sales. This forced the businesses to reduce their staff and the wages of the ones they keep. These businesses also included transport, for example, the global aviation sector got impacted and they had to reduce their staff. Few airlines even collapsed example the Turkish airline Atlas Global. The tourists who visit different countries had to eat the expensive food as well. Cost of basic food items rocked to the sky. A simple chicken burger in Turkey would now cost 1.5 dollars.
3) The High Cost of Health Care
When you tour a country, you also have to fulfill the requirements of them before you enter. This also includes a few vaccinations as well as your health insurance. Because of Covid-19, hospitals are already at full capacity. They are dealing with new patients almost every day. Availability of doctors and equipment became a big concern during this time. In conclusion to that, this increased the fees of the doctors available as well as the cost of vaccines at laboratories.
Summary
We all are sad and shocked by the recent pandemic that hit and shook the whole world. However, slowly and gradually the world is coming back to normal. Though the prices are slightly high, because of which tourism is low in almost every country. But, this will soon, like every other sector will come back to normal, and the busyness in countries with foreigners will be in huge flow.
