If you have recently bought a new phone or are getting ready to sell your current one and upgrade, you’ll want to know how to connect your new device with an old USB cable. If you have an old phone that has been collecting dust in the corner of your home office, it may be an easy task, but if you don’t know where to begin, here are five simple steps that will help you connect your USB to your phone in no time at all.
1) Finding the Right Cable
If you have a disk manufacturer, the search is easy! The first thing you need is the right cable. This will be your first step if you are looking for a disk manufacturer. If not, find the correct connector type on your phone and see what’s available in the best-seller section of the store.
To connect your drive (USB) to your phone (micro), plug one end of the USB into your phone and plug the other end into your micro-USB adapter or converter. If everything goes well, you should be able to do anything that would normally work on an external drive by connecting it through a micro-USB connection.
2) Checking for Drivers
While it’s a good idea to plug your phone into your computer, the first step is often overlooked, and that is checking for drivers. The drivers allow your phone to interact with the computer for you to transfer data. Let’s say you took a picture on your phone and wanted to put it on your laptop.
Without the appropriate driver installed, that’s not going to happen. You may have heard of diskmfr or other disk manufacturers and assumed they were talking about USB sticks, but they were talking about these drivers – once those drivers are installed, everything will be A-OK.
3) Installing Drivers
Diskmfr manufactures the disk, but you will need to get drivers from your phone manufacturer. Diskmfr has a list of popular devices that can be found here. Once you know the disk manufacturer, go to their website and download the appropriate driver for your phone model. These drivers typically come in a file format that can be installed on Windows or Mac computers by clicking install and following any additional prompts.
4) Connecting the Cable
If you are using a newer phone, you first need to find the USB type C port. You should be able to see it on the bottom of your device. Insert the small cable end into this port and plug the other end into your computer. If you are using an older phone, you will need to search for a micro-USB connector on top or one side of your device. Plug one end of your cable into this port and then plug in the other end into a USB type A connector into a computer or an AC adapter
5) Using File Transfer
Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. Start File Transfer on your device, and click Allow if Windows prompts you. Click Browse on the left side of the window, and select the folder from which you want to copy photos. When you see a list of images on the right, drag one or more over.

How do I connect my USB to my smartphone?
First, you will need a USB cable. This is one of the accessories that come with most smartphones, so there’s a good chance you have one lying around. The other thing you’ll need is your phone. Plug the end of your cable into the port on your computer, and then plug the other end into your device. That should be it!
Can you use a USB stick on a mobile phone?
In this day and age, it’s not uncommon for people to use both a computer and their mobile device at the same time. It can be frustrating when you can’t transfer data from your computer onto your mobile device because you don’t have a cable handy.
Fortunately, many different ways allow you to do this. Let’s go through some of them, so you’ll know what options are available for you!
Connecting your phone to your computer is a great way to get data off of your phone. If you want to back up your data, or if you want access to the data on your phone that isn’t available through other methods, connecting it with a cable will do the trick. You can connect it with any cable, but most people have a micro-USB cable.
